"I need to know the year of manufacture for my icom serial number." There are many reasons why people might need to find the date of manufacture for an icom. Some of these reasons may include: needing proof of ownership, researching when they purchased their machine, or simply wanting be aware of how old their equipment is. Asking the manufacturer is only possible with newer models. However, you can still estimate your icom's age by using the serial number and date codes. The serial number on an icom can be found by looking at where "ICOM" is printed on the back right side in black letters. Another way that Icom locates serial numbers is by having a little black sticker next to the model number on the back of your radio. Once you have located the serial number take a look at it and notice a pattern of letters and numbers. The first letter or number is either "Y" or an "S" for year 2002 or 2005 respectively. Sometimes the date code will be slightly different from this, but if your radio was manufactured after 2002, it should start with an "S." Next notice the third letter from the right which represents what month your radio was manufactured. After that, look at the fourth digit from the end and think of this as a day in the year. If your radio was manufactured in February then this digit will be a "2." If it were manufactured on August 19 then it would be an "8". The last two digits are meant to represent either what week or day your radio was manufactured on. If you cannot find any serial number, don't worry. Icom has found a new way to locate these numbers. Take your icom and turn it on so that you see the display. Go to the menu and set "Set Mode" to "FU." This will allow you access to different menus. Next go to menu numbered "047.80" and select option "1." When you do so, you should be presented with a list of ID numbers for your radio. The first number on the list is what Icom considers the "serial number" of your unit. Take this number from icom serial number year of manufacture your radio and enter it on this website: http://www.radio-locator.com/icom. Click on Serial Number Search at the top of the webpage, enter the ID for your radio, and press submit. If your number is "A11-1214" then you can also enter this number at http://www.radio-locator.com/icom/search/find/ where it will appear as "ICOM SERIAL NUMBER SEARCH ID=A11-1214." This website will check if your serial number is already on this list and give more information about your unit. Enter the ID of your radio and follow the prompts to find out more about it. If there are no serial numbers on the list for this model, some manufacturers do not put them on their websites or they may not show up in some users' searches because of removed radios or other issues with their search function. 55cfa1e7782065
